Helpful Tips for Winterizing Your

Outdoor Spa in Greenville, SC

As the colder weather approaches us, it’s important to know the proper steps to take to winterize your outdoor spa. An in-ground spa works similarly to an in-ground pool when it comes to proper winterization techniques in Greenville. If you’re used to preparing your pool for the South Carolina winter, you may already be familiar with the process. If you are new to an outdoor spa, these tips and tricks can help. If you ever need more questions answered, please don’t hesitate to give us a call at Aqua Blue Pools or schedule a service appointment. Our service technicians work 24/7 and will come to you!

Prepare Your In-ground Spa for Colder Temperatures

As you well know, South Carolina doesn’t experience extremely harsh temperatures in the winter. However, it’s still good to prepare your spa for colder temperatures, especially if you plan on not using it until the warmer months. The first step is giving your spa a proper cleaning! Make sure all debris and dirt are removed from the water and surrounding edges. Also, make sure the water is balanced at the proper pH levels to ensure protection from bacteria and other growths while the spa isn’t being used. Since Taylors, SC has a high water table, you do NOT want to completely drain your spa. If you do, you leave your spa susceptible to damage as the ground freezes and expands with the colder weather. Instead, reduce the water in your spa to just below the lip. Leaving some water in your outdoor spa will give it enough weight to remain intact in the ground. Lastly, you’ll want to cover your spa with a sturdy, weather-proof cover. A winter cover should be stronger than a summer cover and should be damage-free. With these quick and easy steps, you can protect your outdoor spa over the winter and be able to enjoy it when the sun comes out again!
